People: The Colony of Nova Scotia
Joseph Howe:
Howe was the former leader of the Nova Scotia Government when Confederation occurred after having his job taken from him when Charles Tupper won the 1864 election. Howe was a Liberal leader, and did not want Confederation. He believed that Nova Scotia had closer ties with Britain then all of the other colonies and thought Confederation was not needed. He was well known for harsh comments towards other politicians.
- Charles Tupper:
Tupper was a medical doctor and became the premier of Nova Scotia in 1864. He was in favour of Confederation and had been serving as the conservative member in the Government of Nova Scotia since 1855. He made a colony of citizens who mainly did not want confederation, be part of it anyway.
