People: The Colony of New Brunswick
Sir Samuel Tilley:
Tilley was the Liberal premier of New Brunswick in 1864 and 1866 and was much in favour of Confederation. He strongly supported the idea of an Inter-colonial railway for transportation in between colonies. He was also very well know for his acts against alcohol and being part of a group trying to make alcohol illegal in New Brunswick, this group failed in their mission.
- A.J. Smith:
A.J. Smith was the former leader of New Brunswick during the time of Confederation. He was a Lawyer from New Brunswick and was opposed to Confederation. Alike to Samuel Tilley, Smith was against alcohol and was part of the same group as Tilley called the “Smashers”, in concern to alcohol. He was well known for being an authority in matters concerning the ocean and water.
